A healthcare navigator is a trained professional who helps individuals and families navigate complex healthcare systems, understand medical information, and access optimal care. Equinox Health Navigation provides personalized guidance throughout Milwaukee and Chicago metropolitan areas, offering services including insurance coverage assistance, care coordination, and medical advocacy.

Healthcare navigators assist with insurance and billing navigation, coordinating appointments with specialists, understanding medical bills, discharge planning, and accessing community health resources. Unlike generic call centers, our local Milwaukee and Chicago healthcare navigation offers personalized support with deep knowledge of regional healthcare networks including Advocate Aurora Health in both markets, Froedtert Health in Milwaukee, Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, University of Chicago Medicine, and Rush University Medical Center.

Healthcare navigation services typically range from project-based fees for specific needs to monthly retainer packages for ongoing support. Equinox Health Navigation serves both Milwaukee and Chicago areas with flexible pricing including individual consultations, monthly service packages, and specialized rates for service industry workers in both metropolitan areas.

Initial 20-minute consultations are provided free of charge to assess your specific needs, whether you're located in Milwaukee County or Cook County. While healthcare navigation services cannot be billed to insurance or applied to FSA/HSA accounts at this time, many clients across both Wisconsin and Illinois find the investment worthwhile for the stress reduction, out-of-pocket savings, and improved health outcomes achieved through professional advocacy.

Yes, healthcare navigators specialize in resolving insurance and billing issues across both Milwaukee and Chicago healthcare markets. Common problems we address include denied claims, surprise medical bills, prior authorization delays, and understanding complex insurance coverage. A healthcare navigator can communicate directly with insurance companies and medical billing departments on your behalf in both Wisconsin and Illinois. We also offer assistance filing both internal and state-level appeals to denials.

We work with all major insurance networks including those accepted by Advocate Aurora Health (serving both markets), Froedtert Health in Milwaukee, Northwestern Medicine, University of Chicago Medicine, and Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, among many others. Our experience includes helping clients access medication assistance programs, negotiate payment plans, and resolve billing errors that could otherwise impact credit scores.

While the terms are often used interchangeably, healthcare navigation typically focuses on system navigation, care coordination, and insurance guidance, while patient advocacy may include more clinical decision-making support. Equinox Health Navigation serves both by combining both approaches to provide comprehensive support.

Our services include traditional navigation like appointment scheduling and insurance verification, plus advocacy elements like preparing clients for appointments, helping communicate with providers, and ensuring clients understand their treatment options. This comprehensive approach is particularly valuable in today's complex healthcare landscapes with multiple hospital systems and specialty networks.

Healthcare navigators help individuals with chronic conditions manage complex care requirements, including coordinating multiple specialists, managing medication schedules, understanding insurance coverage for ongoing treatments, and accessing support resources. This is particularly important for conditions requiring specialized care coordination across Milwaukee and Chicago's extensive healthcare networks.

Equinox Health Navigation serves both metropolitan areas with specific experience managing epilepsy, autoimmune diseases like psoriatic arthritis, diabetes management, and other chronic conditions. Services include helping clients understand treatment options, coordinating care between multiple providers in Milwaukee and Chicago, accessing patient assistance programs for medications, and developing systems for managing ongoing healthcare needs across both Wisconsin and Illinois healthcare systems.

Yes, healthcare navigators play a crucial role in discharge planning by ensuring smooth transitions from hospital to home or other care settings in both Wisconsin and Illinois. This includes coordinating follow-up appointments, understanding discharge instructions, arranging home health services, and ensuring medication management plans are in place.

Discharge planning can be complex. A healthcare navigator helps families understand post-discharge care requirements, coordinates with insurance for covered services, and ensures all necessary resources are in place before leaving the hospital, reducing readmission risks.

Finding the right specialist across Milwaukee's and Chicago's extensive healthcare networks can be overwhelming. Healthcare navigators help by identifying specialists who accept your insurance, have expertise in your specific condition, and have reasonable appointment availability in both metropolitan areas. We also help with referral processes and prior authorization requirements.

A local healthcare navigator understands which specialists have the best outcomes for specific conditions in both markets, can help expedite appointments when medically necessary, and ensures proper preparation for specialty consultations

Your first consultation with a healthcare navigator typically involves a comprehensive assessment of your current healthcare challenges, insurance coverage review, and identification of immediate priorities. Equinox Health Navigation offers initial 20-minute consultations free of charge for clients in both Milwaukee and Chicago areas to determine how we can best support your specific needs.

During this consultation, we'll discuss your current healthcare providers (whether in Milwaukee, Chicago, or surrounding areas), insurance coverage details, any ongoing medical issues, and specific challenges you're facing. We'll explain our services across both metropolitan markets, discuss pricing options, and create a preliminary action plan. This consultation helps ensure our services align with your needs before making any financial commitment.

Healthcare navigation services often provide significant value through time savings, stress reduction, better health outcomes, and potential cost savings from avoided medical errors or insurance issues. Families dealing with complex medical situations, chronic conditions, or elderly care often find professional navigation essential.

The investment in healthcare navigation typically pays for itself through improved insurance utilization, avoided billing errors, faster access to appropriate care, and reduced family stress during medical crises. For families managing multiple healthcare needs across Wisconsin and Illinois healthcare systems, professional navigation can be more cost-effective than taking time off work to handle healthcare coordination independently. This is particularly valuable given the complexity of navigating multiple health systems across both metropolitan areas.

The Wisconsin Equal Rights Division is the state agency that investigates complaints of employment discrimination, including disability discrimination and ADA violations. Filing with the ERD is often the first step in pursuing a discrimination claim and is required before you can file a lawsuit in state court.

No. You have the right to file an ERD complaint and represent yourself throughout the process (called "pro se" representation). Many people successfully navigate the ERD process without an attorney. However, having professional support to organize your evidence and understand the process significantly improves your chances of success.

Attorneys provide legal advice, legal representation, and can negotiate settlements or represent you in court. We provide administrative support only—helping you organize documentation, understand the process, and prepare your complaint. We do NOT give legal advice or represent you in proceedings.

Think of us as your case organizer and process guide. We help you get your complaint filed and the clock started, then connect you with attorneys for legal representation—or guide you through self-representation if you choose to proceed pro se.

No. Jesse Briggs and Equinox Health Navigation are NOT attorneys and do not provide legal advice or legal representation. We provide administrative support and process education only. All clients are encouraged to consult with a licensed attorney for legal advice regarding their case.

No. We do not provide legal representation at hearings, mediations, or any legal proceedings. If your case proceeds to a hearing, you will need to represent yourself or hire an attorney. However, we can help you prepare your evidence and documentation before the hearing.

No one can guarantee the outcome of a legal or administrative proceeding. We provide administrative support and process education to help you present the strongest case possible, but the outcome depends on the facts, evidence, and the ERD's determination. Our role is to help you organize your case and understand the process—not to predict or guarantee results.

300 days from the date of discrimination. This is a strict deadline. If you miss it, you may lose your right to file a complaint. Don't wait—contact us immediately if you're approaching this deadline.

For federal EEOC complaints, Wisconsin residents have 180 days, or 300 days if you dual-file with the ERD (which we can explain).

Generally, it's the date the adverse action occurred (termination, denial of accommodation, demotion, etc.). However, this can be complex—especially in cases of ongoing harassment or constructive discharge. We can help you identify the correct date during your consultation.

Unfortunately, if you're past the 300-day deadline, you cannot file a Wisconsin ERD complaint. However, there may be other legal options available (such as direct lawsuit in certain circumstances). We recommend consulting with an employment attorney immediately to explore your options.

Yes. Wisconsin has a "work-sharing agreement" with the federal EEOC, which means you can dual-file your complaint with both agencies. This is often recommended because it preserves both state and federal remedies. We can guide you through this process.

Absolutely! Many people file their initial complaint and then realize they need support organizing evidence for the investigation, responding to the employer's position statement, or preparing for mediation/hearing. Contact us to discuss where you are in the process and how we can assist.

The ERD process typically takes 12-24 months from filing to resolution, though complex cases can take longer. The timeline includes: initial investigation (3-6 months), probable cause determination, mediation attempts, and potentially a hearing. We'll help you understand what to expect at each stage.

 Strong cases typically include:

  • Employment contract or offer letter
  • Employee handbook/policies
  • Written accommodation requests
  • Medical documentation supporting your disability
  • Emails, texts, Slack messages related to accommodation or adverse actions
  • Performance reviews
  • Termination letter or separation documents
  • Witness names and contact information
  • Any other evidence showing discrimination or retaliation

Don't worry if you don't have everything—we'll help you identify what you have, what you need, and how to obtain missing documentation.

Yes. We understand that losing your job or facing discrimination creates financial stress. Contact us to discuss payment plan options that work for your situation.

Legal aid organizations provide free legal services to low-income individuals, but they:

  • Have strict income eligibility requirements (often below 125% of federal poverty level)
  • Are overwhelmed with long waitlists (often 3-6 months)
  • May not accept your case if it doesn't meet their criteria

We offer affordable administrative support to anyone, regardless of income, and can work with you immediately without waitlists. If you qualify for legal aid, we encourage you to apply—but we're here if you need help sooner or don't qualify.

Our ERD advisory services focus primarily on disability discrimination and ADA accommodation issues because that's where our expertise and lived experience are strongest. However, we can provide general administrative support for other types of discrimination (race, sex, age, etc.). Contact us to discuss your specific situation.
